I'm always surprised by how many people are scared to wear makeup. I get it: you might not want to look like everyone else, and that's cool! But just because you don't want to wear foundation doesn't mean there isn't a place for makeup in your life. In fact, I think there are tons of reasons why all people should try out some new products — including those who identify as gay men.
Wear makeup if you want: Anyone can wear makeup
You can do whatever you want, including wearing makeup. If you don't want to wear makeup, that's fine too! The most important thing is to be comfortable with yourself and your choices.
Makeup is a tool to make you feel good
"Makeup is a tool to make you feel good," says makeup artist and YouTuber Wayne Goss, who has more than two million subscribers on his channel. "It's not about creating a mask."
To that end: for some people, wearing makeup is just another part of their daily routine—like brushing their teeth or getting dressed in the morning. For others, it can be an amazing source of creative expression and personal reflection. When you apply lipstick before going out at night or adding colored contacts to your eyes, you might find yourself thinking about how this will help you communicate what kind of day you're having in an instant—and if you should try harder tomorrow because today wasn't great enough already.
When people ask you what's different about you on any given day; it gives an opportunity to reflect on yourself as well as connect with others through conversation rather than superficiality like "those are cool shoes" or "awesome jacket!"
You can do whatever you want, even if it's totally different from the world around you.
You can wear makeup to express yourself. You can do whatever you want with your face. If you want to wear eyeliner, great! If not, that’s okay too. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do with your face or your body; it is yours and yours alone.
